Discover the joy of constructing a two-meter class glider with the premium Algebra 2M wing rib set! This rib set is meticulously designed for a classic thermal glider with a 78 3/4 inch (2000 mm) wingspan, optimized for two-function R/C (rudder and elevator) control. Built with precision and performance in mind, this rib set honours the legacy of classic thermal soaring.
Features:
Fully-Sheeted Balsa Wings: Designed for durability and a smooth, aerodynamic finish.
Reinforced Ply & Hardwood Construction: Built to withstand various flying conditions with reliable performance.
Precision Laser-Cut Ribs: Each rib is perfectly cut, simplifying construction and ensuring an accurate E176 wing profile.
Ballast Tube Options: This set includes original 1/2" ballast tube holes, with an optional 12mm hole version available on request for compatibility with metric 12mm carbon tubes.
A Classic Heritage Design by Sean Bannister:
Created by Sean Bannister, one of the UK’s top multi-task glider pilots from the 1970s-80s, the Algebra series quickly became a top choice for thermal soaring competitions. Kitted by Dick Edmonds at EMP, the Algebra design inspired a generation of RC glider enthusiasts, excelling in UK events such as BARCS Open and 100-Class competitions. This classic 2m model, kitted by EMP with foam-veneered wings rather than the original built-up construction, became a catalyst for future popular Algebra designs, including 2.5m and 3.0m versions.
Optimised Flight Characteristics:
The Algebra 2M features the Eppler 176 airfoil, chosen for its balanced performance, offering both impressive flying speed and a flat glide angle, which minimizes ballast requirements. A broad chord design helps keep wing loading below 9 oz/ft², achieving robust wing construction. Though nearly 45 years old, the Algebra 2M still would make it an excellent choice for F3L and F5L RES competitions for those windier flying conditions.
Additional Features:
Original Spar System: This rib set is designed for a 1/2 inch (18 SWG) high-tensile aluminium spar/ballast tube, an essential part of the original spar construction.
Wing Joiners: The model uses 6 SWG piano wire wing joiners as per the original design (not included).
Metric Option: For builders preferring metric parts, we offer a custom 12mm carbon ballast tube (480mm x 2) as an alternative. The carbon tube is available separately through SHRC.
Whether you’re a long-time RC glider enthusiast or new to the hobby, the Algebra 2M Rib Set is your chance to build and soar a timeless model loved by generations!
