History: The de Havilland Vampire 100 was an early twin-boomed jet that entered service with the RAF in 1946 just after WWII. The Vampire was retired in 1966 after serving as a popular replacement for piston-engine fighter aircraft and was particularly noted for being the first jet-engine aircraft to cross the Atlantic.
